Personal conversation with Michael Foran (1996) of Querrin lists genealogy back to "Jim" Foran.
However, the "Seankitty" nickname of his son was provided by Paddy Conway (grandson of Mary (Foran) Conway) who is currently (1996) living on the land that John Patrick Foran was born on. This nickname would indicate that John was the son of "John" rather than "James".

Michael Joseph Foran, age 90, died at his home at Asbury Solomons Retirement Community. He suffered from Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Genevieve Murphy Foran, and four children, Michael Joseph Foran Jr., Margaret Ann Chipman, John Patrick Foran and Kathleen Byroads, and seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his caregivers Annie Chase and Susan Wommack.

Michael Foran was awarded the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award for the development of lightweight underwater breathing equipment followed by his research into self contained underwater breathing apparatus, and during his distinguished career with the Department of Navy is credited with the acronym SCUBA. Mr. Foran revised the United States Navy Diving Manual and authored articles on diving in Compton's Encyclopedia.

Michael's parents died when he was young and he was raised by 8 older siblings. He attended night high school in New York City so that he could keep a full time day job and contribute to the family income. He worked his way through college and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. His career was spent as a civilian engineer for the Department of the Navy at the Experimental Diving Unit at the Washington Navy Yard in Anacostia.

Michael Joseph Foran was born on May 2, 1913 in New York City, lived his adult life in the Washington DC area, and died on November 24, 2003 at Solomons Island, MD. He is painfully missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him.
