Marriage 1 : Patrick "Irish" MURPHY m. 09 October 1855 Galena, Jo Daviess County, IL, b. 25 July 1826, d. 02 March 1910
Notes:
lived in the area of Galena and Shannon, IL. about 50 miles west of Chicago. 1900 census show 9 of 10 children living, and emigrated to US in 1850.
[patrickbarron.FTW]
[patrickmurphyancestors.FTW]
Patrick and Anne eloped to Galena, IL and returned to live in Freeport for 5 or 6 years. They then moved south in IL to a place near Sherman, IL. After saving some money they bought 20 acres of timberland in Irish Grove.
Patrick and Anne sold the 20 acres when it became to small for the seven children they had to date. They rented the Mount farm of 120 acres. Later they rented the McGalliard farm of 160 acres at $5 per acre per year. Within two years they had saved $2000 and bought that farm for $50 and acre.
They had 10 children that lived to adulthood.
The Barron family emigrated from Ireland when Anne was a teenager. The trip was extremely rough and one person on the boat died during the voyage. J. Patrick Gatton (Great Grandson) wrote a short story (which he recorded for the family in 1995) about that trip and attributed it to Anne Barron. He later learned that the story was about the truth of her ocean trip.[patrickmurphyancestors.FTW]

Marriage 1 : Catharine TALLON m. 1838 Ireland Cty Meath, b. 08 January 1806, d. 31 May 1894
Notes:
Thomas was a farmer in Ireland. Thomas and Catharine settled on a farm in Meath, Stalleen Parish, near Donore. They had nine children
In 1850 Census both Thomas and Catharine listed their age as 40.
Thomas Barron and Catharine Falon-Barron sailed from Ireland to New York City in the USA in 1850 on a Vessel named Fidelia on May1, 1850. They brought nine children with them. Thomas' brother and his own family made the journey with Thomas. The voyage took five weeks and three days. The trip was a stormy one, and there was one death on the vessel. They landed in NYC on June10, 1850. After a month they moved to Michigan and then, in 1851 to Lost Creek IL where some of Thomas' cousin William Barron had already settled in 1849. They farmed a 160 acre farm 15 miles soutwest of Freeport. The Barrons were successful farmers and left their children four hundred acres of valuable land.
In 1851 it cost $12.00 to cross the ocean and $7.00 to get to Cleveland from NY via the Erie Canal. It cost $8.00 to get to Detroit across the lake by steamer, $14.50 to get to Chicago over land and $10.00 per month to live in barracks or tents.
Thomas held almost all of the Township offices. He was a democrat and a member of the Chatholic church and was well thought of in all of the county.
Thomas and Catharine are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Freeport IL.
Two of the boys of Thomas and Catherine fought in the Civil War. Patrick fought for the Confederacy. Patrick did not marry and was assistant Postmaster in New Orleans and died at age 48. John fought with the Union Army in the Illinois Regement and died of exposure during the war.
Catherine died at age 53. Eliza died at age 11. Lucy lived in Freeport and kept hous for her brother Joseph.
During the time of Barron's life in Lost Creek, Anne Barron met Patrick Murphy of Freeport (originally from County Carlow).
